Epic Burger is one of the few "green" restaurants in the loop. It is located at 517 S. State St., and it offers a variety of organic foods.

If you are looking for good eats around Roosevelt University’s Chicago campus, look no further than Epic Burger [517 S. State].

With the tag line, “A More Mindful Burger,” Epic Burger stands out as one of the few “green” restaurants in the loop. They use eco-friendly packaging, energy-efficient appliances and cook with fresh, organic food.

In an interview with lifestyle blog PrairieMod, David Friedman, owner, said he wanted Epic Burger to be focused on a few items and executed really well.

Their menu consists of five choices; a burger, turkey burger, chicken breast sandwich, portabella mushroom sandwich, and a BLT. Toppings such as cage-free organic fried eggs, nitrate free bacon, “epic sauce” and a variety of Wisconsin cheeses help spice up the plain choices.

Don’t be fooled by their small menu though. The restaurant truly earns the Epic part of its name, both in size and taste.

Friedman is also prideful of his staff and the effort they’ve put in towards their Open Mic Night.

“Open Mic was conceived by my staff,” said Friedman. “They thought it would be a great way to showcase the talents of their friends and peers. They have organized the format and marketing from beginning to end. I simply supported their efforts.”

Epic Burger holds the Open Mic Night which is sponsored by Pepsi on the last Friday of every month from 8-10 pm.

After a two month hiatus, the Open Mic Night returned in January with approximately 12 entries. Their first Open Mic Night had over 30 participants.

“We have had singers, poets, beat box, magicians, rap artists, DJs and guitarist,” Friedman said. “Most of them are actually quite good.”

To participate in the Open Mic Night, students only need to show up at 7:30 pm to be placed on the performers list. There are free T-shirts and other giveaways along with $2 sliders and half-price fountain drinks.

Students also receive a 10 percent discount on orders with student ID and if students sign up for their mailing list, a two dollar off coupon is immediately emailed back. But be sure to use it within the two-week limit.
