Roosevelt University’s student-run radio station, WRBC The Blaze, is hosting a dance party for Roosevelt students on Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the Congress Lounge in the Auditorium Building. Festivities are scheduled to commence from 7 to 10 p.m.

Admission is free, but there is a $1 suggested donation.  For every dollar donated, an attendee will receive a raffle ticket.  There will also be a dance contest, featuring several local DJs spinning various dance genres including disco and house.

“Rather than your typical rap or rock, we’re playing actual dance music,” said Greg Tovar, promotions director at The Blaze.

Besides a dance contest and raffle, there will also be a costume contest.  Categories are nerdy, scary, sexy, and best couple.  The winners will compete for a grand prize: a debit gift card the winner can spend anywhere.  Meredith Haas, managing coordinator, will be the emcee for the event.

“We expect awesomeness,” chuckled Chris Vittoe, station director at The Blaze.  “[Students] can stop by and have a good time.”

Currently, The Blaze airs approximately 20 shows ranging from music and special interest to politics and comedy, yet The Blaze has a few upcoming initiatives for the Roosevelt Campus.  On Tuesday, Nov. 6, they will have a Mobile Day.  On Mobile Days, Blaze members relocate their live broadcast to another location on campus, giving passersby a chance to comment on air.  For Tuesday, they will occupy the common area on the 14th floor of the Wabash residence hall.

“We’re going to ask random people walking by to comment on whatever we’re talking about,” Vittoe said.  “And who doesn’t want to be on the radio?”

There is also a YouTube channel, WRBCTV, to host The Blaze’s in-progress web series.  The series, Off-Air, is a mocumentary about working in broadcast radio.  They plan to apply a brand of comedy akin to the hit television series, The Office, hoping to parody life as a radio geek on the college campus.

Watch The Blaze work in room 505L in the Gage Building.  For questions and comments, email the staff at info@wrbc.fm or call 312-853-3939.
