Ralph Lauren premieres the new line at Fashion Week in New York City.
As summer officially wraps up, and fashion week has ended, the call to switch up wardrobes beckons with the cooler weather.
So what is in?
While last season was all about high-impact hues with intense saturations, there’s an unexpected mix of darks, lights and neutrals cleverly added to designers’ collections this fall season.
There are 10 essential Pantone colors: French Roast, Honey Gold, Pink Flambe, Tangerine Tango, Ultramarine Green, Bright Chartreuse, Olympian Blue, Titanium, Rhapsody and Rose Smoke. Pantone is known as the global authority on color. Men’s colors are similar with the addition of Sea Frog and Whitecap Gray. Rich, deep tones replace bright pastels and neons - together creating a palette of fantasy and illusion for this season’s trend setters.
Vintage also makes a comeback: plaids, florals, knits and lace make a strong appearance this fall. For ladies, it’s about exaggerated and off-balanced shapes while remaining feminine.
Luxe pieces with elegant embroidery and fur accents are essential - sometimes even for simple pieces - along with prints, prints, and more prints.
Patterns stay, although the fall season will blow away from bold and wild and instead stick to more structured designs like Alexander Wang and Rodarte’s ‘fenced lines’ look.
Another big focus: ample, oversized outerwear to keep warm for a effortless, polished look, instead of summery fitted knits and tees.
The traditional military style also gets a makeover with new silhouettes and opulent fabrics. Plush velvets become the texture of the season while modern pant-suit ensembles and the renaissance look are go-to inspirational pieces sure to dominate fall 2012.
And what about fall office wear? Not every trend will work but fit and color scheme are key.
Above all, smile, have fun and show your personality while rocking fall pieces on, sure to scream from ‘runway to classroom’ fabulosity.
