This past Thursday at the Schaumburg campus students had the opportunity to experience being hypnotized or watch others be hypnotized. Chris Jones, 25, a full-time performing hypnotist showed students his abilities to control the mind.
Jones had students perform tasks such as falling asleep, dancing, and telling him their secrets. He even made a student believe he was the rapper Drake.
“At first I was skeptical, but it was pretty amazing after I experienced it,” said sophomore Rafael Andugar, one of the student participants in the event. “You see images in your head and zone off when he tells you to…It’s pretty awesome.”
Senior Nicole Hauser discussed the effectiveness of Jones’ hypnotism. “I actually did fall asleep on stage when he told me to,” she said.
All students agreed that they would love to see Jones back at Roosevelt for another performance.
“I would love to see him come back; we just need a bigger turnout,” said Katy Guo, a pharmacy student.
While there were nearly 50 attendees, most people agreed that it would be even more fun with a bigger turnout.
Jones agreed, “It was hard because of how small the crowd was. I usually will do it with 800 people, using 40 volunteers on stage.”
Jones, however, enjoyed the performance.
“I like hanging with college students. I like to give people a break from real life, too,” he said. “I hope students learned something.”
With Jones doing 16 shows a month, it may be awhile before he stops by again. However, students agreed the performance was interesting and funny, and they would love to see him come back.
“I would definitely come back,” said Jones. “I had a lot of fun.”
