Christopher Nolan's second and break out feature "Memento" is a game changer. It has changed the way scripts are written, how a film is put together and the independent circuit. "Memento" tells the story of Leonard (Guy Pearce) an amnesiac who has short term memory loss and can't remember anything for more than a few minutes. His wife had been killed by a "John G" and he is on his case looking for him. But is he really looking for him? Who can Leonard trust, what can he and the audience believe? The film is crafted in a way that we are along for the journey with Leonard. But Nolan does this in a practical, grounded way and does not use gimmicks. The script I believe is a game changer. It's one of the first films to really use the multi-story arch and is an amazing thriller. It's such a precise, well-crafted film. You would think that a film with a story line like this would get the audience confused, but Nolan's craft is so seamless and invisible that we do not notice it. It came together so seamlessly and invisible. "Memento" works on so many levels as a thriller, a mind bender and even a psychological study. It's a film that loses it's luster after additional viewings, but the first time you see it creates such a gut punch that it doesn't matter
