Steven Soderbergh is a director who is fearless. I without a doubt can respect the man for anything he does. His biggest success both mainstream and critical is the ensemble drama "Traffic". It is an ensemble piece that weaves together several stories about the drug trade and business. He creates this gripping thriller that both entertains and engages. The thing that engaged me so much about the film is how Soderbergh did it. He could have shot this film as a documentary, stories told in vignettes. But he chose to present each story back and fourth. It's something that could have gone terribly wrong. All the stars and the stories are a bit confusing. But it works out in the best way. The film also set a precedent for films to come. The socio-political thriller, the ensemble cast and the independent pictures. It has been copied and done again many times, but most do not work as great as "Traffic" has.
