Openly gay actor Wilson Cruz shared his experiences of being gay, a minority, and an actor in a presentation titled "My So-Called Life: Coming Out, Family Life and Homelessness" in the Congress Lounge Thursday. RU Proud, SPEED Chicago and the student activity fee sponsored the event, which began with Cruz singing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' a cappella.
New guidelines explicitly protect university members

Roosevelt announced a new policy last week that protects students, staff and faculty who wish to report internal injustices enacted from within the university.
The Whistleblower Policy, as it is named, provides explicit protections for anyone who suspects others within the university of wrongdoing.

• Summer sessions begin May 27
Summer classes offer students a chance to get ahead or make up a course, transfer credit to other universities or improve job skills. Summer classes also allow undergrads to register for six credits, but pay for only five.
Classes are held in two six-week sessions, one eight-week session and one 12-week session from May 27 through Aug.
Five-year-old girl rushed to hospital after wind causes inflatable obstacle course to flip

SPEED Schaumburg's end-of-the-year barbecue ended on a sour note April 26 when the 5-year-old daughter of a university graduate student fell off a 75-foot inflatable obstacle course and sustained minor injuries to her back.
The young girl, the daughter of a university graduate student, was not injured but was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.

Taking a cue from Fortune magazine's annual "100 Best Companies to Work For," the Chronicle of Higher Education is surveying schools around the nation to find "Great Colleges to Work For," and Roosevelt is taking part.
It consisted of an employee survey sent out to 400 randomly selected full-time staff beginning March 30.

Spring commencement will be held in two sessions on May 16 in the Auditorium Theatre. Each ceremony will be about 90 minutes long. There are no tickets and students are allowed as many guests as they want as seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrangements for guests with disabilities must be made through the Office of Student Services at 312-341-2004 by May 5.

Narcotics possession
Police responded to a narcotics possession call at the Herman Crown Center at 425 S. Wabash Ave. at 4:15 p.m. The suspect, Jamara McDaniel, 35, was not connected with the student residence and had fewer than 30 grams of cannabis.
