If you want an authentic barbecue experience, head on down to Austin, Texas. If you want a barbecue experience that is eerily faithful to that of the Lonestar State, you need only hop on the CTA Blue line to Smoque BBQ. Smoque BBQ is relatively new on the scene, a little over a year old. What makes this place so wonderful is the food quality. Real smoky beef brisket (chopped or sliced) echoes smoky, woody flavors of the barbecue pit they use in the back. Big and hearty, the beef tenderly falls off the bone. The pulled pork sandwich is melt-in-your- mouth quality, especially when combined with the added, light barbecue sauce which balance together perfectly. Smoque also serve ribs - regular or St. Louis style (where the brisket bones are removed from the bottom of the rib rack) and also offer add-on meats, so the diner can try different meats along with their dishes. Side dishes include creamy macaroni and cheese, hand-cut french fries, coleslaw, barbecue beans and dessert is an over-the-top peach cobbler. Smoque is a bring-your-own-alcohol establishment. It is closed Mondays and open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. Smoque is located at 3800 N. Pulaski Rd. For more information visit www.smoquebbq.com.
