Roosevelt's Department of Sociology will welcome a new professor for the spring 2010 semester.
Popular game show host Alex Trebek will be officially listed as a professor. He previously taught a course as a guest instructor during the summer of 2008.
Trebek's summer course was so popular that officials at Roosevelt knew they had to bring him back.
"Truthfully, he has no qualifications to teach, but he knows people," said Karen Thompson, an employee in the human resources department at Roosevelt.
"Plus, we know he can grow a great mustache. Studies show students love teachers with mustaches."
Philip Worthing, a junior sociology major at Roosevelt, is also excited about Trebek's return.
"I had him last summer for 'Rhymes with Brown.' I really liked him," said Worthing, "The first day of class, Professor Trebek wanted to know about each student. He listened to me tell this story about a weird experience I had at Sea World."
While Worthing enjoyed Trebek, his experience in the class was not perfect.
"His final was really tough," Worthing said, "It was one question, and we only had about one minute to answer it. 'Who is Bozo the Clown?' I will never forget that correct answer."
Trebek brings with him years of expertise in the realm of people and society.
Since 1984, he's been the host of the popular game show "Jeopardy." He is also a published author. Trebek's book, "We Get It, Ken Jennings, You're Smart," stayed at the top of the New York Times Best Seller List for three days.
His resume also lists an appearance on the 1980s television show Cheers.
Calls to Ted Danson's office were not returned by press time.
Trebek sees his career switch as a logical change.
"It makes sense I would teach a course in sociology," said Trebek, "'Jeopardy' has people on it. I talk to people all the time. Also, I really like Franklin D. Roosevelt. I watched that movie he was in called 'Pearl Harbor.' Taking this job at Roosevelt just makes sense."
Next spring, Trebek will teach the course "Potent Potables." This course, listed as SOC 009 in the catalogue, will be a required class for all students pursuing a B.A. in Sociology.
